The Wits School of Clinical Medicine, Faculty of Health Sciences, invites suitably qualified persons to apply for the post of a Research Coordinator. The successful candidate will be responsible for increasing the research footprint and visibility of SOCM nationally and internationally by implementing the research agenda for the Cluster C. The post would be suitable for those with a passion for academic and research excellence.

Purposes of Job:
The successful incumbent will report to the Head of the School of Clinical Medicine and the Cluster Head and will be responsible for the development of initiating, supporting and operationalising of research project(s) within the Cluster C.

Key tasks:

• Delivery of the School research agenda, in particular to promote the MMED program for the registrars in the Cluster
• Identify and apply for funding relevant to the School
• Initiate, support and monitor grant applications for research projects
• Develop and foster relationships with institutional funders
• Perform research management on projects in liaison with other stakeholders
• Support project coordinators and research teams and assist/mentor supervisors in the Cluster with the required Faculty processes of supervising postgraduate research
• Assist the dissemination of research project’s progress reports
• Monitor and keeps a database of research publications and presentations
• Organize regular writing retreats and training on research
• Organize and coordinate research protocol assessor group meetings and act as an assessor
• Facilitate the examination process of the research component of the clinical MMed qualification
• Personally supervise postgraduate students, especially Masters and PhD
• Assist students with publications of articles
• Available as an examiner on final research reports or dissertations in the SOCM
• Conducting desktop (or secondary) research: reviews and secondary data analysis
• Personally engage in primary research relevant to the SOCM Cluster’s research portfolio.
• Publish accredited research and present scholarly papers at conferences
• Perform general research administrative duties as required

• PhD degree in the health or social sciences
• Evidence of success at research grant writing
• Evidence of published research
• Experience in conducting quantitative and qualitative data analysis
• Experience coordinating research projects
• Experience presenting at local and / or international conferences
• Experience working in a research environment
• Experience supervising postgraduate students, at least at the Masters’ degree level
• Experience developing and maintaining successful research collaborations will be an advantage
