Deputy Vice Chancellor: Academic and Research (5 year contract Peromnes 2)
You possess the confidence and requisite academic stature to make you a ‘stand-out’ Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Academic and Research. You are an astute team player known for developing a vibrant academic and research culture in support of health sciences and stand ready to bolster SMU’s reputatione ven further, both regionally and nationally, as you actively support the Vice-Chancellor in the leadership and management of the University.Your Doctoral degree in Health Sciences is juxtaposed against a minimum of 15 years in higher education, with a strong focus on teaching (including e-teaching), learning, research and innovation, and is inclusive of a minimum of 10 years proven academic leadership in a senior management position (Dean/Deputy Dean/Head of Department). Your NRF rating will be a distinct advantage. Above all, you understand institutional integrated transformation and organisational alignment.
You accept accountability for academic and research leadership • Research and Innovation • LibraryServices • Centre for University Teaching and Learning • the Electron Microscopy function • Internationalisation. You are completely computer literate and altogether familiar with the MS Office suite of products.
Chief Operating Officer (5 year contract Peromnes 2)
You have built a solid reputation as an astute business leader who is a respected executive and team player. You have unparalleled ability to oversee Human Resources, Information and Communication Technology, the Built Environment, Student Affairs and Security Services.You hold at least a Master’s degree in a Commercial or Business Management discipline (e.g. MBA) supported by a relevant honours degree and leadership exposure in a discipline cited in the oversight responsibilities mentioned above. You have gained at least 15 years’ experience in overseeing any of these areas, of which a minimum of 10 years’ is reflected in a leadership position gained in a large organization,managing complex projects. Any experience in the higher education sector will prove a distinct advantage, but is not essential. You are a team player, proficient in the latest systems, trends and technology and you understand institutional transformation and organisational alignment. You are highly accustomed with the MS Office suite of products.
Director: Research and Innovation (5 year contract Peromnes 5)
When it comes to research and innovation you are a notable ‘rising star’. You are equipped to lead and stimulate this key function at Director level, knowing that this is but one stop on a much longer ‘research and innovation’ journey. Enabling postgraduate studies, supporting the commercialisation of innovation and research outcomes, in conjunction with on-going engagement with industry and government bodies, serves as a meaningful conduit to securing additional research funding. Reporting to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Academic and Research, you meet the below essential criteria with ease. Your PhD, which is ideally in a Health Sciences discipline, is contrasted against at least 8 years’ relevant experience managing research and/or innovation. This 8 years includes at least 3 years in a higher education environment, where you have led a research team. Statistical analysis is a particular talent, as is motivating and inspiring others. Your record of attracting and managing national and international research grants is impressive, particularly given your in-depth knowledge of the funding environment. Your network of relationships is notable. It is most likely that you understand patent law, licensing and commercialisation. You are experienced and knowledgeable around Integrated Tertiary Software (ITS) and/or any other research management software/programmes. Everything you do is underpinned by an avid ability to connect with people across many environments and continually grow strategic relationships that lead to public/private partnerships on multidisciplinary projects.
Director: Internationalisation (5 year contract Peromnes 5)
You fit the mould of being a dynamic and astute Director in the Internationalisation arena because of your high level of business acumen. In leading the internationalisation function, you have built close relationships with international partners, institutions and government departments – in other words, you are an accomplished and strong networker. Reporting to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Academic and Research, you meet all the essential criteria as indicated below. Equipped with a minimum of a Master’s degree in International Studies or Education, you have a minimum of 8 years’ experience in the higher education sector that includes conducting research, liaising with governance committees, other tertiary institutions, government and international stakeholders. Included in this 8 years’ experience is 3 years of leadership in a managerial capacity. Not only do you have a proven track record in the research environment, but you also have an excellent understanding of foundations/funding agencies and their interface with higher education. Having Institutional Advancement will prove a distinct advantage. Your ICT knowledge and proficiency, particularly the MS Office Suite of products, is above average.
