Job Description

Vhembe District Municipality is located at the northwestern tip of South Africa in the Limpopo Province and is bordered by Zimbabwe to the north and Botswana to the northwest and, through the Kruger National Park, the Vhembe District also borders Mozambique on its eastern border.

Chief Fire Officer
Salary: R283 592.74 per annum, plus normal municipal benefits and travelling allowance.


Key performance areas:



  • Manage and finalise the capital and operating budget and revenue for presentation to the General Manager: Community Services

  • Strategise and plan the activities of the Fire and Rescue function

  • Manage the fire and rescue services within the District

  • Manage staff within the Fire and Rescue division

  • Develop policy/by-laws/new procedures and operational guidelines

  • Monitor Fire Protection Associations

  • Manage the Fire Safety and Training function so that standards are maintained

  • Make decisions on how and where Fire Stations, water supplies, equipment and staff must be utilised

  • Make decisions in terms of the Fire Brigade Act, Municipal Structures Act, Municipal Systems Act and Municipal Finance Management Act

  • Approve business plans in line with the Fire Brigade Act.



Requirements:


 



  • A Grade 12/Basic Ambulance Certificate/Diploma in Fire Technology (SAESI) or equivalent qualifications in Fire Technology or Fire Engineering Science from SAQA-accredited institutions

  • 5 years in a senior capacity, with a total of 10 years as a Senior Officer in Fire and Rescue Services

  • Knowledge of applicable legislation and Code of Practice

  • Computer literacy, with proficiency in MS Word/Excel/PowerPoint

  • Code EC driver’s licence.
